At the moment there aren’t many viruses, spyware or malware for Linux. There are some out there, but not a lot. Then we have the Windows side where there are a quite a lot of viruses. So many and so harmfull that you have to buy Virus Protection software to protect your computer.
Linux is on the rise at the moment. I do believe that we get more and more people moving from Windows to Linux. Some move over to the Mac which also does not have a big virus problem. But I have heard that this has changed, and that it will change even more when the userbase is getting bigger.
Well. Yesterday at work a colleague of mine came up with a conspiracytheory: What if someone at Microsoft startet writing malware, spyware and viruses for the Linux platform. This so that the rise of the Free and Open Source operating system stopped and so that more and more people moved away from it and back to Windows.
That thought got me thinking. It would not really surprise me if it did happen. Although I really don’t see it as realistic.
Anyway. I am allowed to have such conspiracytheories and so I publish my thoughts.
