Before Ubuntu (Canonical) launched Ubuntu 8.04 which is the long time support version I decided that I would install this from scratch without wiping the Home-directory even. I was so looking forward to this distribution.
Unfortunately I was disapointed.
Why?
Because I have had so many problems with it.
And what are those?
1) I can’t move windows under Compiz. So I have to turn of compiz and what happens? Well, the window goes into maximize-mode before it is being moved.
2) Icons cannot be moved. Instead of moving the icon (file, directory or program) I end up opening them. Try picturing 169 files…
3) The computer suddenly hard crashes. Which again makes the led for Caps Lock and Scroll Lock blinking… Not good
4) Desktop is not really updated. When I mark an area, the marked area is not removed / refreshed. Not good.
So what do I think this bug is related to? Well, I have a feeling it is related to the Intel driver. First I thought it was the Nautilus program (which is Gnomes explorer), then I thought it was X – which is the server / program that makes things show up on the screen. Then I looked at the drivers and thought that it was not the right one and changed it.. well, then I got some action at least. So I am now going for the driver part.
Hopefully the bugs will be fixed, cos I have great thoughts for it. I have however looked at Fedora 8-9 and I really like that distro now. I like the graphics much better… Well, who knows. Maybe I go from brown to blue…
